Martha, Martha, Mary Has Chosen The Good Part
Luke 10:38 - 42 Now as they were traveling along, He entered a certain village; and a woman named Martha welcomed Him in to her home.
And She had a sister called Mary who moreover was listening to the Lord's word, seated at His feet.
But Martha was distracted with all her preparations; and she came up to Him, and said, "Lord; do You not care that my sister has left me to do all the serving alone? Then tell her to help me."
But the Lord answered and said to her, " Martha, Martha, you are worried and bothered about so many things;
but only a few things are necessary, really only one, for Mary has chosen the good part, which shall not be taken away from her."
In this short account, Martha said to the Lord, Mary had left her to do all the serving alone , so Mary must had helped Martha with her preparations and then went and sat down at the Lords feet and was listening to His word.
Martha in addressing Jesus, called Him Lord in relating to Him, Martha believed it was only right for her sister to be helping her further with the serving. Martha presses Jesus first saying to Him, Do you not care that my sister has left me to do all the serving alone? Then she tells Him, what to do, saying to Him, "Then tell her to help me."
Martha seems pretty upset with her sister for not doing what she believed her sister Mary should be doing to help her - Martha believed Mary was not doing her part.
Martha could have been sitting at the Lord's feet too, listening to His word but she was distracted with all her preparations and was bothered and worried about so many things.
When we tell the Lord what to do, when we are complaining about some one else, He as our Lord; when we look to Him, about a matter such as this, He tells us what is most important.
But Jesus answered Martha, "But only a few things are necessary, really only one."
Mary chose to sit at the Lord's feet and to hear His Words, and Jesus said Mary had chosen the good part and the part she chose would not be taken away from her.
All these things we are worried and bothered about, all these distractions we are distracted with , but there are only a few things that are necessary in serving, but really only "one" and our Lord in this that He spoke to Martha, will reveal to us and put into perspective for us, that one thing that (IS) necessary, as we hear and "receive" , the Word Jesus' spoke to Martha.
