Computer Gaming Computer Gaming

Computer gaming is dangerous because it saps us of our strength and energy. I know this very well, as in my late 20s and into my 30s, I used to play video games on weekends sometimes until six or seven o’clock Saturday morning. (This, even in spite of the fact that I was a “spirit-filled, tongues-speaking Christian”). It sapped me of all my energy and kept me from being able to fulfill the dreams that God had for me. I hope and pray that anyone that is involved in “gaming” these days will think twice about it. It is very addictive and is causing many relationship breakups, etc. Please do not be caught up in this kind of endeavour. There are already horror stories of people dying because of this – and many relationship breakups. In fact, there are websites out there already that are focus groups to help those who have been harmed by this addiction. One person in Asia at an Internet Café was not discovered as dead until nine hours after he died. Apparently, everyone at the Internet café was so engulfed in their habit that they did not even realize that the guy next to them was dead (for nine hours !!!).

Bottom line -- there are many addictions and snares that the enemy is more than happy to ensnare us into. Gaming is one of them, and is even prompting certain governments (S. Korea and China, namely) to take steps against the damage it is causing. South Korea is a step ahead of the U.S. in technology and thus they have already taken steps to ward off this evil (even though S. Korea is not even a godly country). The U.S. is not too far behind (I think we will probably start doing something similar because of the damage the U.S. government is already becoming aware of).

But there is good news. God healed me of my “gaming” back in the 80s (Atari 800 – remember that, you older guys?), and if anyone out there is hooked on the same thing – guess what? He is more than willing to take that snare from you and heal you the same way He healed me.

Since we are in the last of the last days, just please be aware that God is expecting us to have our lamps trimmed. He is expecting us to redeem the time (use our time wisely) for His kingdom. He wants us to be heavily involved in seeking first the kingdom – which involves the great commission. Let’s be [just a little] more cognizant of how the enemy is more than willing to steal time and energy from our lives to prevent us from being involved in kingdom ministry – and instead using our time [wisely] to bring forth the kingdom of God.

Thanks for your post, Brother John. I agree that any addictions can be harmful except perhaps addiction to God'S Word and living it. I might personally stop short of government regulation because I just do not think the government can or should be allowed to regulate such activity or they cross into the areas of morality too and unfortunately their version of it and God's version is usually different. So I agree strongly that we need to personally take the steps to redeem the time and behave wisely when it comes to those things and as parents who have children addicted to gaming, we need to regulate our kids at home. Interesting post. Thanks for your perspective on this issue. :-) MS
